Books, Booklets & Blessings at BCI!
If you’ve kept up with changes at RPTS over the past 5 years, you are aware of the establishment of the Biblical Counseling Institute and the wonderful blessing this has been to our students, local pastors, and many who have been counseled here at our center. Since its inception, we have offered thousands of hours of free counseling to many who have come through our doors.
We counsel according to God’s word and heartily agree with 2 Timothy 3:16-17 which says that “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (ESV). Thus, you wouldn’t be surprised to always see our Bibles open in our counseling sessions.
You might not know, however, that we also use a variety of other books and booklets which pull together scriptural teaching on various topics related to issues faced in counseling. Some of our favorite go-to resources include two by Elyse Fitzpatrick, Overcoming Fear, Worry and Anxiety and Because He Loves Me. Another resource, used both in the classroom and in counseling is Repentance, A Daring Call to Real Surrender by C. John Miller. How to Grow in Christ, by our own Dr. Kinneer, is helpful for newer Christians. In addition, we carry many resources on parenting and marriage by authors such as Jay Adams, Wayne Mack, Ted Tripp and Lou Priolo. Need a booklet? We have booklets! Topics range widely, from anger and ADD to priorities and pornography to stress and sexual sin and many other topics in between.
Like our counseling, we do not charge for these books and booklets. All are marked with a suggested donation, but they are available in our lobby for anyone who would like to use them. Many of our counselors have also been seen putting money in the collection box themselves on behalf of counselees they know don’t have money to make a contribution. When you support BCI, you not only help to provide the counseling itself, you partner with us to provide the resources we use to help those in need!
